Petition to Colorado Governor Bill Owens

PETITIONS DELIVERED TO THE GOVERNOR ON OCTOBER 6, 2005

To Colorado Governor Bill Owens:

We, the undersigned Citizens of Colorado, demand that you immediately take the following steps to halt the terrible social and economic impact of illegal immigration in the State of Colorado:

1) Declare a State of Emergency in the State of Colorado

2) Issue an Emergency Executive Order reversing all written and de facto “Sanctuary” policies throughout Colorado

3) Issue an Emergency Executive Order designating sports arenas, former military bases, and other facilities as “overflow” holding areas for illegal aliens awaiting hearings and deportations (ending dangerous catch-and-release policies)

4) Establish and impose financial and other personnel sanctions against State agencies and employees who conduct State business in languages other than Colorado’s Constitutionally designated “Official English.”

We ask that you uphold your Oath of Office and take these steps without delay.

As of 11/10/05, Gov. Owens has not responded to our request for a meeting, or provided us with written legal opinions and cost/benefit analyses on the petition requests, as we requested per his staff's instructions in an email to the Governor sent on October 13, 2005:

On 10/13/2005, we sent an email to Gov. Owens following up on the petition:

October 13, 2005

Gov. Owens:

This email is sent to you to ask that you set up a meeting with the people who delivered the petition to you which asks you to act now on the issue of illegal aliens. Each of these groups may bring two people to that meeting, so that our group may include up to 20 people -- with several interested parties possibly being invited by us to observe.

We would like to meet with you for 2 hours to discuss your planned reponse to requests we made on that petition (text below), and ask that you provide us with three possible meeting dates and times -- with two hours of your time blocked out so that you have ample time to discuss the State's position, and answer any questions we might have. Because the Colorado Minutemen are heading for the border on October 15th through November 1, we ask to meet no sooner than November 4, and no Later than November 20.

PRIOR to that meeting, we would like the State Attorney General/Legislative Counsel to provide us with concise written legal opinions on our requests and any legal issues surrounding each point.

We also ask that you provide us with short- and long-term cost-benefit analyses of gross and net costs/savings to implement each of these points. We ask that this information be delivered by the State via email to each of the addresses listed above NO LATER THAN one week BEFORE our scheduled meeting. If this is not possible, we would like a written explanation.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have regarding our meeting. You can reach me via email or phone at 303-868-0298.

Thank you for your cooperation.
